The following graphic - known as a Sankey Diagram - is generated using the d3.js library according to a recipe developed by Mike Bostock, (my working notes here). The data is pulled from the Ergast Motor Racing Results Data API.
(I think the insecure content warning is a result of mixing http and https calls to generate the following graphic. Not sure what I can do about this????)
The chart shows how points "flow" from race to driver to team. The chart is interactive so you can reorder the driver/team blocks. I wonder if it would make sense to order the drivers and/or team blocks in the standings order (although the mapping of lines from race to driver may get a little more cluttered/confusing?), or use colour to identify rank positions?
